Muse-Creations for Our Forgive it Forward Giveaway – Because forgiveness and creativity go hand-in-hand for us, Ray and I thought it would be fun to spice up our 35-day Forgive It Forward project launch with a focus on the arts. So, we sent a call out to the muses among us for a little assist and some inspiration.

Between June 14th and July 19th, we introduced artists, sculptors, potters, musicians – and more – who forgave it forward with us by donating a gift for a random drawing giveaway. Each muse answered two questions and shared a little bit about their creative process and passion. We hope they inspire you.

Karla Zdroik: Artist and Sculptor

Irish Wolfhound

Every morning a 24-leg entourage greets me, each “set of four” with their very distinct personality. To the novice passerby they are just stray cats but to me they are more than that. What I love about Karla’s work is how she captures the “more,” the personality of each four-legged character she sculpts. These little – and not so little – creatures are muses who inspire and inform her work, which is what makes her “Forever Memories” commissions so popular. Karla loves animals and loves (more…)

Margaret Warfield: Artist

This art journey that I am on officially began in 1982, when I was commissioned to paint the “Estate Home” of a family in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

With photo in hand, I began to bring to life a likeness of a valued memory of this family’s past. The day of completion arrived and it was time to present my first project. I must admit that I was very nervous. However, my emotional state was quickly relieved when the client began to cry when she was flooded with the emotions of her childhood escapades related to the painting.

My journey as an artist has been one filled with the joy of sharing with the public my concepts of reality. I think of myself as an artistic communicator, wishing to transform and extend perception and stimulate views toward new insights and expressions. All of my paintings contain elements of hope and love. Art is a language; its purpose is to open a dialogue between the art (more…)

Sharron Cee: Mandala Artist

Sharron is a sometimes poet and digital artist who creates her pieces for friends, family, and personal pleasure. Each piece is created with love (and occasional hints of humor).

She was always a creative child, but her creativity was sidelined by life and serious academic pursuits.  Now in her dotage, her inner child has reawakened to the joy of the (more…)

Marilyn McConnell: A Mixed Media Artist

Mickey is a personal muse. The mother of a dear friend, she entered my life as a writer. And for years, that’s how I “saw” her whenever I thought of her. (Off somewhere, writing poetry or working on a novel.) On the fast track of life, I missed that she was an art teacher and an artist. Then Facebook came along and we ‘friended’ each other. THAT’S when I saw her album. THAT’S when she became my muse. As an artist who stumbled into the writing and publishing world, I am inspired by Mickey’s artwork and her vision for urban altars. (Not to mention her volume of expression.) She reminds me that it is never too late to let my artist come back out to play!

So, tell us Mickey …

Art. Feng Shui. And Mr. Right?

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

I’ll never forget one of my early Feng Shui consultations. A single, professionally successful woman hired me to come to her home and pinpoint why her work life and love life were so out of balance.

Seems she had a knack for finding men who lost their jobs shortly after the relationship moved into the “exclusively dating” mode. Being self-sufficient and of generous spirit she would always find herself assisting them while waiting for them to “step up to the plate.” The current Mr. Right shadowing her doorstep was particularly perplexing to her in that she could not just boot him out. Seems she really loved this one. (In all fairness, he did turn out to be Mr. Right. Last I heard they had married, moved, and were raising a beautiful baby boy.)

Putting on my Feng Shui eyes, I moved from room to room making suggestions. I did not see anything that reflected her work and love life challenge until I got to her bedroom. There, hanging right over the head of her bed, was a (more…)

A Muse In Your Closet

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Repurposed. Refashioned. Reincarnated. Recycled. Reworked. Remarkable!

Recycled-fashion designers are popping up everywhere and creating amazing garb with ‘cast-offs’ from our closets, thrift stores, attics, and salvage stores. (You name the place, they’ve likely scavenged it.)

In their passion to refashion, nothing is tossed out. From upscale couture to whimsical funky, even the smallest scrap of fabric serves a ‘higher purpose’ when seen through their eyes. Sweater sleeves cuff a soft linen blouse. A vintage tablecloth merges with a sweatshirt to make a dress. Grandma’s lace doilies and Grandpa’s argyle socks create focal points on a gently worn cashmere sweater turned into a vest. Antique door hinges and old game pieces rebirth as jewelry.

A Few Names to Get you Started

“Repurposed clothing is not only gentler on the environment, it also inspires uniquely beautiful garments that have stories woven into them.”   Kat O’Sullivan, Yoga Journal, May 2008
